ARTIST BIO
I am an encaustic and experimental artist with a background in visual design. When I first started as an artist in San Francisco, I imagined creating large theatrical environments, murals and window displays. Throughout the years I have adapted my work to the demand of the project (or wall) in front of me.
I now live in Prairie Village, Kansas (Kansas City Metro Area) and currently focus on encaustic art, watercolor with pen and ink, experimental messaging works and mixed media with found objects. I am passionate about seeing others unlocked in their talent, showcasing the arts in local communities, and using art as mental health / emotional healing therapy. In the coming days I hope to work more with youth and young adults healing trauma through art.
THE THERAPY OF ENCAUSTIC ART
Encaustic painting is an ancient art technique in which beeswax is melted and then applied in molten state to a surface, either on its own or mixed with pigments.
In addition to the layering and fun with texture, the very act of burning, melting, and watching the heat take the color its own direction provides a necessary release to letting the “art” take control. This release of control became incredibly therapeutic to me in recent years, and while I’ve not spent too much time on developing more technique, I have spent the time on the technique of “letting go”.
